How To Fix Adobe Error Text Engine In Adobe Photoshop CS6
It’s possible that a bad font could cause this error, but that’s what the problem was in my case.
The problem was an residual folder from the Photoshop CS6 installation.
The fix is really simple. Make sure that Photoshop is not running and then just delete the contents of the following folder:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\TypeSupport
or
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport
Then start up Photoshop CS5.5 and try the text tool.
If for some reason this did not work, you might have a corrupted font and you should try to track it down and remove it.
